bill in London of over $50 in gold which I consider most extravagant. Altogether it has cost me $150 to send and exhibit these pictures and have them returned, a luxury I dont propose to indulge in any more. [[underlined]] Sunday May 3" 1874. Last night was monthly meeting at the Century and it was the pleasantest gathering by far that I have attended there this winter. There was a very nice collection of pictures. I sent my "October Snow" just come from England and a little skating scene. Several people spoke to me in praise of my snow picture and I heard it would probably be sold. I wrote to my mother today from whom I received a letter on Tuesday. Received a telegram from Weir inviting us up there for his day. Replied that we could not come. Wrote him a letter

[[underlined]] Sunday 10. Went to the club last night and had a pleasant evening with Whittredge, Lafarge Thompson & Haseltine.

[[underlined]] Tuesday 12. Sunday was as warm as midsummer. I called on Eastman Johnson and walking down found
