I have the honor, to present you the following statement made this day before me by one "John Sanders" (fmc) from Brenham. It appears that after the assault made upon him, the agent at Brenham (Captain Collins) gave him no redress:

Statement of "Sanders" "I hired to a man by the name of Ed. Randall, living 5 miles from Brenham. Some days since he gave me, as he said rations for work. they did not last me but 3 days and at the end of that time I went to him, and asked for something to eat. He refused me. I said "Mr Randall, I cannot work as hard for you as you want me to do, unless you give me something to eat." "God d__n you" he said "I wont give you any more, and if you don't like it clear out of my yard." I went that evening to the agent at Brenham to make my complaint, of which he heard. He sent a white boy after me, asking me "If I was coming back to work." I sent word back "I was as soon as I got through with my business at Brenham." I went back when "Randall" came up to me and catching up a chair, made a strike at my head,
