Office SAC B. of R.F. and A. Lds La Grange Texas Dec. 18th, 1866. Brevet Lt. Col. Henry A Ellis A.A.A Genl. B. of R.F. and A. Lds. Galveston Texas. Col: I have the honor to invited your attention to the following case. A Planter in this County named William J Hudson, employed, during the present year, a number of Freedmen at monthly wages for the purpose of raising Cotton. This morning the Freedmen informed me that about two weeks ago, Hudson shipped all the Cotton - about 20 Bales - without paying them for their labor, or in any way securing it to them. He is totally irresponsible, and the best information I can get is that he took it to Alleyton, and that it was shipped through Cunningham & Co, - most likely to Ranger & Co. Galveston - whose Agent at this place, I just learn, made an advance on it. I have written to the Agent at Columbus - E.M. Harris Esq - to make inquiry at Alleyton - find out the marks on the Bales - the name of the shipper -
