Adjutant:
I have the honor to call your attention to the enclosed I fear it will bring on a collision with my detachment I shall surely uphold the dignity of my court, and only respectfully draw your attention to the meagreness of my forces, twelve men all told I entirely leave it to the General's judgment to say whether I shall risk their lives in carrying out my rulings, or in defending myself afterwards I know the scarcity of troops at your command, yet I feel it incumbent on me to state the danger, before Saturday night, or probably before this reaches you there will be a collision, under plea of enforcing a civil process I also enclose instructions from my superior which you will please return to me
