General

I notice in your report to Gen'l Howard complain of not being able to find citizen agents who are competent and who can take the oath prescribed.

I take the liberty of addressing you, and would state that I am now so situated as to be able to accept an agency in your department, should you feel disposed to give me one. I enlisted in U.S Service in Aug 1862 in the State of Iowa (38th Iowa Infty) where I served for several month as private was then made Q. M Sergeant in which position I served about one year, when I was commissioned 1st Lt & R.Q.M. 38th Iowa Infty by Gov" Kirkwood on the 1st Jan/65 when 34 & 38th Iowa were consolidated I was retained by order of Genl Canby as Q.M. of the 34th Iowa where I served until the muster out of the Regt in Aug/65. I then returned to Texas, and have remained here since that time My position will doubtless satisfy you as to my business qualifycations, now Genl if you have a place you wish an agent & the dept will pay
