Sir:
In view of the strict regulations of the Pay Dept. requiring all Officers to be identified by the Payments paying them, or to be responsible for all frauds. I have the honor to request that you will furnish me with a statement of the Officers on duty in your Bureau, at the Towns on the Brazos and at all places west of that River, except on the Rio Grande, with the No. & date of the order of their assignment. Please notify me also of removals and new assignments. I have been paying these Officers by mail and can identify them only in this way.
Very Respectfully
Your Obt. Servant
