General, 

I have the honor to make the following report of the condition of the Freedman, and the general interests of Grimes Co. which has been placed under my supervision.

I reached Grimes Co. on the 30th of April last, and found everything looking as favorable as could be expected, a general satisfaction among both Planter and Freedman.  The work of planting was nearly completed, the ground in good condition, Planters and Freedmen could see their way clear for making good crops, and without a great amount of hard labor, or trouble,  Farming had been commenced in good season, work well advanced, in fact everything seemed auspicious, for both parties, As the crops 
 
over
