urday, the first from him relative to mine of the 3rd instant, advising him of the shipment on that day of the pastels, and from which I quote:--
"I shall give every attention possible to this mater, in order to insure its being carried through in such a ways as to secure prompt delivery and installation."
I rather expected he would inform me of the receipt of the four cases containing the pastels, as I asked him to do, because I wished to advise you how they made the journey to St. Louis. I am writing him again to-day to let me know of the arrival of the cases and how promptly and carefully they were delivered in Room 21, U.S. Section.
Mrs. Hecker received a telegram from the Colonel this morning, saying that he was on his way home, and would reach here at 5:30 this evening. We will be glad to see him.
