PERSONAL.

Detroit, Michigan,
June 27th, 1904.

My dear Montross:--

I have your good letter and wish that I knew of some suggestion of value to offer in the matter mentioned. But, to be perfectly frank, I really do not.

It has been a mystery to me for years to watch the increase in expensive public sales galleries, both in New York and London, and I have often wondered how they survived. I fancy in dull times, like the present, the outgo of many must fully equal, or, perhaps, exceed the income.

I need not, I am sure, tell you that my best wishes will follow whatever course you decide to pursue.

Yours faithfully,
Charles L. Freer
