34 -2- American Express, charges prepaid, to your agent in St. Louis, giving him instructions about the hanging of the carvings. Please send promptly to Mr. J. M. Kennedy, #915 Union Trust Building, Detroit, your bill for the prepayment of the charges and the expense of packing. He will remit promptly and in turn will collect it from Mr. Ives, Chief of the Department of Art of the St. Louis Fair. I have written to Mr. Ives, telling him that your Agent would call upon him; and Mr. Ives in turn will show him the room and give him authority to erect the carvings. Of course, the carvings should not go up until after the pastels are hung. I doubt if the pictures will be hung much before the 10th of May, but the carvings might be sent on whenever they are ready, in order that your man can place them at his convenience. For whatever expense of any kind you are to put to in this matter, please render bill to Mr. Kennedy in my absence, and he will see that prompt remittance is made. I shall be in New York during Tuesday afternoon, May 3rd, and will then take pleasure in calling upon you, and if any further information is needed, I can then supply it. Yours very sincerely, Charles L Freer D. J. R. Ushikubo, Esq., C/o Messrs. Yamanaka & Co., New York City.
