My dear Mr Freer,

I must thank you for so kindly sending the sum of £6216 for my account and have duly received the money from the Hong Kong Bank in N.Y.

Thank you also for sending the other painting to Mr Larkin on my behalf. I sincerely trust that the climate of California has restored you to health and that the throat trouble is a thing of the past. I am being much troubled by an affection of the eye, glaucoma, which is growing worse. When next I am in the States, I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you and having a talk on Chinese art subjects.

With kindest remembrances,

Yours very sincerely

E. Backhouse.
