Mr. Leycock walking out for his health. His wife is an invalid and he talked to me about her. This afternoon and evening have been busy arranging my old letters and it was like living in the past. Sara went to High Falls with Nannie and Lily to return tomorrow. I miss her and she was reluctant to go until I urged her. Sat with my mother alone in the parlor and talked of Gertrude. Had a letter from Calvert hoping I would come down to the Bryant memorial tonight but it came too late. I would like to be there but I should dread to meet so many of my friends at once just now. A letter from Miss Dunfee telling me my picture "The Year Smiles" is sold for nine hundred dollars to Mr. Amasa Stone of Cleveland.

I arranged a little trellis in the hall for the Morning Glory I have planted just before the frost and which is growing nicely. This afternoon I went over to the cemetery to see about the digging the lot. The man was digging a grave and he told me it was for a child of a poor man who has recently buried his wife and three children. Patrick Barry has today dug the hole for the flag staff. I wrote a long letter to Alice. I had a beautiful letter from Stedhan in which my worst fears for Taylor are confirmed. Reid had a letter from
