I have the honor to respectfully ask the adjutant Genl what course I will persue regarding the late affair in this vicinity numbers of men that was in the party that Lt Howe surrendered his prisoners to have frequently came to me for advice as they are sick of living in the woods and many of them have left this Country perhaps never to return and others are endavoring to sell their crops with the Intentions of leaving this County I have advised many of their warm freinds to induce the young Insurrectionarys to at once report to the General Comdg but they fear this step and the Military Commission but inform me that if the General would only send some officer here to try them and let the punishment be a fine the last one of them will give themselves up all they dread is the imprisonment a few of the old line Rebels assure me that many young were lead there By actual
