Sir:

I have the honor to report that Private George Allen of Co "C" 6th U.S. Cavalry one of the detachment on duty as Guard at this office deserted on Friday night last the 4th inst.

Enclosed please find letters of notification of that fact to the Adjutant of his regiment & his company Commander. I am forced to transmit them thus on account of non-communication between this place & Austin.

I would most respectfully ask to have his place supplied & that the party chosen should be one known to be sober, having had much trouble with Allen on account of his drunkeness.

Very Respectfully
Your Obd't Serv't
