The citizens fired guns about 1, o'clock on that night, I know that it was the citizens because I heard James Downs say that he was one of them and that he shot also, I think they shot at Joe Wagner who was a member of our guard Dr Hunsaker left Crockett about three O'clock that night to go to Centreville for soldiers - the guard never fired on any person - I saw twelve citizens on horse back armed, next day and I heard them say that all they wanted was Dr Hunsaker's scalp. They started on the road toward Centreville - James Downs J.A. Wright, E.R. Helmns, Gus Aldrich, were among the party who pursued Dr Hunsaker, Joe A. Wright said he was fighting for his country and he would fight till he died - that all he wanted was Hunsaker's scalp
