for 1865 was still unpaid, as the accounts were then made out they amounted to near ($4000) Four Thousand dollars (specie) in the meanwhile on account of non-settlement by Mess H. & W. the Trustee R.V. Cook had advertised the property for sale on Saturday last the 5th inst & knowing by former experience the great difficulty in collecting Bonds I determined to seize the entire place with all the farming utensils & stock on it & this I did on the 5th inst (Saturday) notifying Mess D.H. Crisp & R.V. Cook of my reasons for so doing a copy of which letter is hereto annexed as is also a copy of S.O. No. 12 making the seizure I at the same time notified Dr. D.H. Crisp that I would hear the claims of the freedmen on Monday the 7th inst at 9 1/2 oclock A.M. this notice I served on him verbally first by Lieut John Williams & afterwards in a conversation with him repeated myself. and on the same day served a notice in writing on R.V. Cook the Trustee when Monday came I waited some time for Mess Crisp & Cook to appear & as they did not do so sent Mr. Cook a verbal message that I was about to take up the case to which
