Sir:
I have the honor to lay the following facts before the Major General Assistant Commissioner - & ask for instructions in the premises-

D.C. Marsh & N.E. Bell make a contract of rent with John Tooke of this County for the rental of his farm they to pay him ($1200) Twelve hundred dollars for it covenanting that it should all be paid before the removal of the crop - Tooke has complained before the Civil authorities that Mess Marsh & Bell have broken their part of the contract in as much as they have removed part of the crop of this I have no knowledge except as gathered from a conversation with Tooke & has taken out an attachment against the crop - The freedmen working for Mess M & B have through Mr. B. entered a complaint that their wages amounting to between $800 & $1000 is still unpaid & that their only chance for payment is through the crop
