to their party if not otherwise by murdering them; In my official acts as Sheriff I meet with insults daily. Several days since I receved an execution against George Quinan from the Supreme Court of this State I called on him to pay the same upon which he refused. Therefore I levied upon his property in accordance with Law, put up a notice of sale which the said Quinan maliciously tore down and defied me sell his property and such instances are constantly occurring also threatning to hang me for discharging my duties So it is utterly impossible for me to perform any official acts whatever without assistance from the Military and I earnestly and positively request that a detachment of U.S. Troops be sent here of not less than thirty or my official acts will have to cease Without said assistance law and order is a mere farce. I will state that Mr George Quinan is a very prominent Lawyer and the most influencial man at this place. I also assert here that man whoose politics are, what is called demicratic, could not be convicted for the murder of a Freeman or a Union Man in this County through our Courts and a Military Commission is the only way by which one of them could be brought to Justice--

no need to include correct spellings in brackets if misspelled word can easily be deciphered as misspelled (Ex. "threatning" vs "threatening"); just keep the writer's original misspelling
