I went to the place of Judge Tolbert on Red River, Sam Pool (col'd) stated that men came to his house, and inquired the way to the place of Mr. Hooks, he stated that he run, and went to Mr. Hooks quarters, and informed Forrest Hooks (col'd) Teacher of the Freedmen school.

I then, also on Monday morning, went to the place of Col. Warren Hooks I learned by the statement of Forrest Hooks. (col'd) that he had followed the men, with several other colored men, to the house of George Collum. (who has a crop on Gov Runnels. place, and who is living on that place.) and that they surrounded the house and yard that the men were in, & that they did not know whether to take them or not, and that he informed me that he had them surrounded, he stated that they withdrew from the place, Sunday forenoon, and went to church.

I received the information late on Sunday afternoon.  I advised the colored persons, that had been Robbed and beaten to appear, at once, before some Civil officer, and make known their complaints.

John Holloway appeared before me today, he stated that on Sunday evening with his wife, he left W.S. Coleman. place to go to Gov Runnels. place where he works. "soon after we got out of the yard two men rode out in front of us, one of the men got down & took my Revolver, one of the men struck me on the head three times with a Revolver, and knocked me down each time. and kicked me on the head, and stamped me in the mouth.  The men then took
