The State of Texas County of Anderson To 1st Lieut JP Richardson AAA Genl Head Quarters, Austin Texas Your petitioner Nancy J. Rawlings a resident citizen of the County of Anderson and state of Texas respectfully represents that she is a widow lady in very poor and needy circumstances. That she has been a widow since about the 4th day of May AD 1864, at which time her late husband A.J. Rawlings departed this life. At the time of his said death, and until a very short time since she was seized and possessed of a certain tract or parcel of land lying and being situate in Anderson County and said state containing One Hundred and fifty six & 5/10 acres. That said land is all the land that she claims or owns in said State of Texas. That it is her homestead and as such, under the homestead laws of the state she so claims it. That she has been in peacable and quiet possession of the same for a large number of years, to wit, about fifteen years, and held he same quietly and peacably until on or about the 15th day [[strikethrough]] whe [[/strikethrough]] of August AD 1867, when in pursuance of Military order No and and to which reference is made she was dispossessed of the same by John H Morrison [[strikethrough]] Capt and [[/strikethrough]] Sub Asst Comssr BRF&AL, who since said time has held it adversely to her and greatly to her disadvantage and prejudice.
