Petition of Mrs. N.J. Rawlings states waiver in poor and needy circumstances — says that at the time of [[strikethrough]] his [[/strikethrough]] death and until a short time since was posessed of 156 5/10 acres of land — that it is her homestead- and she so claims it = 

Admits that during the war the Confederate Govt. erected some buildings and made other improvements without her consent or authority— Her husband died the 4th of May 1864. — That she never signed any deed for sale of the land or authorized it to be done—

Wm. H. King County Clerk certifies that there is no deed [[strikethrough]] [[illegible]] [[/strikethrough]] recorded in his office or on file transferring the property from Mrs. N.J. or A.J. Rawlings to the Confederate Govt= Mrs. R. admits that she sold the Confed Govt 2½ acres=

Forwarded to Washington June 9th and recommended by Genl. Reynolds that 156 5/10 acres be released — 2 1/2 acres sold— 

Returned by Genl. Howard Aug 18th '68 with recommendation approved =
