they asked me who it was. I told them I did not know, about this time the man who had been shooting, who proved to be English had mounted his horse, one of the gentlemen B.T. Webb called out to the man who had mounted his horse, what is the matter George. the answer that I heard was a fellow around here tried to take my six shooter from me. Webb asked him where was he, he said around here pointing to the rear of May's Saloon. Webb asked him again where is he, said he, he is lying around here, indicating the place again. English then turned his horse around and road [[strikethrough]] off [[/strikethrough]] down the street going South. He got opposite the Jefferson road and looked down it, and then looked in an oposit direction then he looked back, toward the place he had first started from & rode on managing his gait a little but not going faster than a good saddle horse could walk. The last I saw of him he was still going in the same direction looking back in a northern direction. I have not seen him since I was sitting on the block, opposite the Brick House. I did not know who had reference to when he spoke of the fellow pointing in the rear of the grocery. I did not get to the spot until I saw several people going. When I got there, I saw the wound in his head, was lieing on his back, his arms were by his side, his wife was bending over in much agony. I only remained a moment. I did not like a scene of that kind, and the crowd was gathering rapidly.
