at the Livery stable opposite. Know of no one breaking into any of the houses. The adjoining building to the Barber shop caught fire about the time I arrived. I returned to the place I came from after the fire. The bundle carried by the man I met was rolled up. He was a white man. not very large rather low and thick.Cant say that he had whiskers. I saw him still running after passing me, as long as I looked which was only a few steps.

I know the prisoner when I see him. saw him first about a week ago, at my fathers store. He spoke to me about a writing school. [[strikethrough]] Told me that he had been run off from Wharts in Laredo. [[/strikethrough]] saw him on friday about 8 p.m. at fathers store. Dont know how long he remained. So far as I know he is a stranger here. He never mentioned anything about his pecuniary circumstances. at first he visited fathers store frequently. [[strikethrough]] I have formed a contempt for the prisoner judging from his conduct that it was his intention to get up a riot between the whites and blacks. [[/strikethrough]]
