Bastrop Texas
June 17 1868
John P Jones Shff. of Bastrop Co

Dr Sir Yours of the 15th Inst is at hand requesting my legal opinion touching certain questions in relation to your official duties; and in answer I have to say I am not advised of any law that authorizes a judicial officer to order the arrest of a party for Contempt of Court - except such officer be sitting at the time in his judicial capacity - In the event the County Court and Justices Court should be in session at the same time the law requires the sheriff to wait upon the former; it is the duty of the constable under the law to wait upon the Justices Courts.

I am sir very respectfully yours &c
