of accepting my offer, and I am going to Washington the early part of next week to consult with them. I have no doubt that an agreement will be reached under which my offer will be accepted. And if this transpires, would it be agreeable to you to carry out the composition proposed along the lines suggested in your letter, with the purpose of finally erecting it at Washington? If this meets with your approval would you, also, be willing to design a tablet, as originally desired, for West Point?

From the several conversations had with Miss Birnie-Philip and her sister, Mrs. Whibley, during my recent visit to England, I believe that they, with me, feel that a simple and smaller tablet would be more appropriate for West Point.

Hence, I feel like asking you to let the matter rest as it is until after my visit to Washington, and if matters there go as present indications suggest, I would then like to either meet you in New York or Windsor, at your convenience, and come to a definite understanding about the Greek Steele for Washington, and the Tablet for West Point.

I trust I am not asking for too much.

With cordial regards and trusting that you are keeping very well, I remain,

Sincerely yours,
Charles L Freer

Augustus Saint-Gordon, Esq.,
