Letter #1

419 W. 118th St. New York

Monday March 4th 1901

Dear Mr Freer-
     After a comfortable and
uneventful journey. I arrived
home on Saturday in time for
lunch, and was not the least
tired in the evening for the artists
at Mr. Wyant's.

I can't tell you in adequate words what light of encouragement and color of joy you made that all
too short week [[I had?]] over my winter in America, and forward along my life work. I feel like a new man, warmed with your sympathetic comprehension and frank friendship.

Next to you, the joy was in your friends, whom I had the great privilege of winning, to some extent, for mine.
