In California, I had time to see and interest personally the President and professors of Berkeley University; also the art lovers of San Francisco. I can well utilize these the month of October. Speaking roughly, December must be, at present, reserved for Chicago. I cannot yet foresee when it may be best to bring in the Detroit and Ann Arbor courses; -- late in November, late in December or early in January. This must depend on my secretary's success in "placing" university engagements West and East.

But I will write you again about this when I hear from her. It will be in good time for you to act, as you so kindly promised, when you return from Italy.
