Dear Mr. Freer - 

I meant to write to you long ere this, to thank you for the enchanting visit which you allowed Mrs. Fenollosa and me to make you. The irregularity of this paper may be a side witness to the confusion in which we are living. I am writing this at Spring Hill, amid a cloud of mason's dust.  

Mary wrote to you yesterday. We hope indeed that you continue to improve in health. We often speak of those charming days in Detroit, and hope that we did not tire you
