#33 Ferry Avenue,
Detroit, Michigan,
August 29th, 1906.

H. Gould Smith, Esquire,
-Kingston, New York.

My dear Sir:—
Your kind letter of August 24th is here, enclosing a copy of a painting of Wall Street, Kingston, New York (done in 1830), and I thank you very much indeed for your goodness. I note also your remarks concerning the collection of articles now contained at the corner of O'Reilly Street and Broadway, Kingston. I have no doubt they are very interesting, but the truth is I do not care very much about archaeology. I did spend a forenoon at New Paltz looking over the old houses there, but I am too busy to pay much attention to such matters. I am, however, none the less obliged to you for sending me the photograph and for having called my attention to the collection named.

Believe me, with kind remembrances,
Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer
