Via Castello
Capri. Sept. 6th 1900.

My dear Colonel:-

The trip across proved very comfortable and entertaining.

Ship clean, service good, eats excellent, company all solid - a host of New England girls bound for Florence to complete their musical studies.

Tom met me on board at Naples and rushed me through the customs like a whirlwind. That night was spent at Naples and the next day on board a fine 30 ft. cutter, leased by Tom for the season, in sailing from Naples over to the Island. An ideal way to approach Capri!

Since then, ie., last Saturday, we have spent our time in getting acquainted with our house and garden, in making acquaintances, and in revisiting some favorite spots seen together by us last year.

There are some good fellows living here, a small club somewhat like the "Yon" is kept up, a couple of good cafes exist where strangers meet, and messages and commissions can be interchanged with the main land either by telegraph, mail or steamers, as frequently as necessary.

The house is very large, convenient, comfortable, and in several respects very beautiful. Many of the floors are of antique marbles which if taken to America, would I am sure, sell for as much money as we paid for the entire property.

When we finish repairs and complete the furnishings, it will be a handsome, unique and exclusive house.
