Villa Castello, Capri.
June 25th 1901.

Dear Colonel-

I have your full and interesting letter of June 4th and am glad to hear from you.

Life here is as delightful as ever. The Gulf, the sea and te the shore lines viewed from this little island retain all of their old time beauty and with greater intimacy seem to be, if possible, even more charming. We swim and loaf along the beaches and under the cliffs at sunset. We climb the hills, inspect the old ruins, watch the clouds, see the flowers ripen and fall and give way to their successors. Occasionally have a glimpse of dawn from between the pergola columns and once in a great while find time to think of the outside world which really seems so far away, and which, but for our good friends there would almost disappear from memory.

There are a few splendid fellows and one corking woman[[strikethrough]] [[?]] [[/strikethrough]] living here. We gather tagether [[together]] when in the mood and those of sufficient ambition talk of things intellectual and dream of things real. During the last two Sundays this little group has gathered at the Grotto Mitromania and worshipped in befitting way, the old pagan god Mithras, with Tom as high priest. Great fun and really beautiful effects of color, music and the magnificent grotto high up the mountain side with outlook to the bocca and the Sorrento hills.
