HOTEL METROPOLE BRUXELLES

June 30th, 1909.

My dear Colonel

Referring to the letter send you from London late last week in connection with financing my recent purchases, and the possibility of my purchasing this week, the "Valpariso Nocturne" by Whistler now in the McCullough Collection, I have the pleasure of telling you that the picture became mine today. Mr. D. Croal Thomson of Wallis and Son, (the French Gallery) of 120 Pall Mall, London, S.W. carried the deal with the McCullough family through for me.

The price is £ 3,000 al London, and this is to be telegraphed on July 14th or earlier at your convenience, to Wallis and Son at the address in London named above. Messrs Wallis and Son are in Pall Mall next door to Brown, Shipley and Co. This three thousand pounds will be needed in addition to the proceeds of L.S. and M.S. Bonds which I have already asked you to sell, and dividends due July 1st so, I have just cabled you - "In addition to proceeds of Bonds, shall require fifteen thousand dollars July fourteenth wired to London. Please arrange. Letter explains". I hope that you will borrow this sum and more if needed, at the State Bank pledging of my stock of P.D. and Co. as collateral.
The painting will be shipped to my address at Detroit, as usual, and in bond to Detroit, by the American Express, transportation charges collect.
I am sorry to trouble you so much with my financial matters but have comfort in the thought that you will do it willingly.
I enjoyed Mons very much yesterday and today have been visiting the museum buildings here, tomorrow I go to Ghent.
Please show this letter to Mr. Kennedy so as to avoid my duplication of the information to him.
With kindest regards to all
Yours always sincerely,
Charles L. Freer.
Long hand.
