September 1st 1910.

Dear Colonel Hecker,

We are due at Yokohama tomorrow, and I am sending this line to tell you that my travels thus far have been charming.

The Beldens made my day at San Francisco delightful and the two young ladies of the family spoke warmly of Louise and bade me give her nicest of messages -- will you kindly tell Louise?

Our ship is very good, the eats and drinks all right, but the service wretched -- However, the latter defect is nothing in these many days of bright warm sunshine and perfect sea. It's all restful and bracing and the moonlit nights are wonderful.

Amongst our passengers there are enough worth while to provide excellent company, for the few hours of daily conversation which I care to spare from my rest and reading.

I feel much refreshed by the rest and comfort thus far enjoyed and am already anticipating good luck in China.

You and yours are all well and Mrs. Hecker is quite free of pain, I hope. To you all I send highest regards and best wishes,

Very sincerely yours,
(signed) Charles L. Freer.
