a personal examination of the monument in Paris. I have been spending but little time in Detroit since February 1st last and have experienced a great deal of comfort and no small return of strength since that time in the "Berkshire Hills" and other nearby resorts, and during next week I intend to return to Detroit for a very thorough examination by my doctors and, if they will consent, I hope to visit Paris late in October or perhaps early in November, when I trust to have the pleasure of examining the monument. Should my doctors decline to allow me to make the journey I shall communicate with you and suggest some other way of getting the additional information necessary to decide whether or not to buy the monument. You know of course how important the color effects, lustre, etc., are in helping to determine the esthetic value of the mihrab and I trust that if I am not allowed to visit Paris this year that we can find some manner of helping me to a better understanding of the object. So you may expect to hear further from me after my return to Detroit early in October, and the chances are that Mr. Kevorkyan will have returned from his trip to Persia about November 1st.
Concerning the "coup", decorated with a king on horseback, the more I have studied the photograph of the object the more strongly I feel that the piece of pottery is of Chinese manufacture. Mr. Kevorkyan's description of the paste, glaze and coloring recalls very strongly many pieces
