My Dear Mr. Goward:-

Your letter of the eighteenth instant, together with the catalogue, came in this morning's mail and I have read both most carefully. I shall be so busy during the remaining days to be spent here that I feel that there is very little chance of my being able to go to Chicago to see the paintings now in the Art Institute. The Kakemono which you have at your house, also the four paintings in port folio, which you offer to bring to Detroit to show me, I would enjoy seeing, and if you still feel inclined to bring them here I shall be pleased to see you on Sunday next, the twenty first instant, and should you come we can, as you suggested, talk the matter over fully.
