I have acknowledged the receipt of numbers 255 to 262, both inclusive.

I am leaving this evening for a trip East of ten days or so, in order to give my wife a change, and thought I would write you this letter before leaving, so that if you inform us of your address beyond Java, it can be sent without delay.  I arranged my time of absence so as to be pretty sure of being here when the things from Cairo are received.  No foreign shipments since you left, have, as yet been received, nor have any consular papers come to Mr. Allison.  As you know, the consular papers are always a week or ten days in advance of the receipt of shipments, and I feel sure that I will have returned before the arrival of any of your things.

Since I last wrote you, Mr. Montross advised me that your two paintings and Col. Hecker's, were received in good order, and made a very beautiful effect after being hung with others.  The paintings are covered with insurance until after their return here.

Some days ago, Mrs. Dewing wrote Stephen asking that her painting of "The Poppies", be sent to Philadelphia, and I have advice from the Pennsylvania
