Mr. Charles L. Freer

Detroit, Michigan

Dear Mr. Freer:
Having received more explicit information as to the use of $100,000 at Peking for preservation of antiquities and desiring to be correct in my statements concerning this matter, I have taken the liberty under the circumstances of your absence to send the following letter to Dr. Walcott, Mr. Meyer, and Mr. Warner, to whom copies of my letter of January 4th to you were sent:

(COPY)
Dear Sir:
I desire to amplify and correct the wording of a letter respecting means for conserving antiquities in China, which January 4th, 1914, I addressed to Mr. Charles L. Freer, a copy of which letter I believe has been sent you.

Please note that, according to information supplied to me, the facts are that in agreement with China the Government at Washington has consented to the use of $100,000 of the Boxer Indemnity remitted to China by the United States to be used in preparation of museum quarters in Peking, and the collection, exhibition and preservation there of national collections of antiquities and art.

The importance of promoting our plan for an American School of Archeology in China is of such and urgent nature that I would be glad to know what suggestions you many have as to what means we could take to promote that plan.

Yours sincerely,
(Signed) FREDERICK McCORMICK, Secretary.
With best wishes,

Yours sincerely,
Frederick McCormick
Secretary
