have been made, five are yet on hand.  A quantity of curtains, spitoons, lamps, lamp-hangers & chains were bought for $60.00  A part of this furniture is yet on hand.  

I have not been able to visit the schools as often as would be desirable owing to the pressure of other business, but my visits have always encouraged me to persevere in this good work.  The progress of the Scholars is remarkable under the circumstances.  They are learning very rapidly & often surprise you by their ready answers to difficult questions.  A General Association of all the Supts and Teachers of the District, which is now being organized bids fair to accomplish much good.
