There are or will be in a few days nine (9) Industrial Schools in operation in your District. Eight (8) of them are receiving more or less assistance from the Bureau in the way of quarters, furniture, material &c. and three of these schools are so nearly entirely sustained by the Bureau that they are called Bureau Schools. When Benevolent parties sustain these schools chiefly, they exercise their own best judgment and are responsible for the results. When the Bureau gives countenance to this work or adopts certain schools, the question arises, how can we make them most useful. 

We want to teach women to cut out garments and to sew and knit, so that they can prepare clothing for their own families and get better wages when they work out. Two hundred
