No opposition to these meetings was manifested by the Whites, on the contrary at Leonardtown, they attended in large numbers. About 600 Blacks were at the meeting at Port Tobacco, and 1200 at Leonardtown. Five School Houses have been erected in these places by the Bureau and colored people, and movements are in progress for the erection of several others in these Counties. The Colored population is very numerous, but little has thus far been done for their education. Much enthusiasm was manifest at the meetings, and many promises made of immediate action. It is very difficult to see this people and bring the most important subjects before them without these gatherings from time to time. There is great need of an extensive Temperance movement, especially in these Counties.

At Robytown, Prince George Co. a meeting was held by Messrs Langston and Alvord: some money was raised, and a movement inaugurated which bids fair to result in the building of a school-house on land donated by Mr. Roby for that purpose. A school-house is nearly completed at Oxen Run. Houses are also in progress at Nottingham, and at Upper Marlboro. The large house on O St. in this city is well under way but it will hardly be completed at the time appointed, on the 20th of September.
