They will have to raise money for the lot and building in addition to what the Colored people will give, and the local tax yield by giving their own official Bonds.  As they seem to be willing to do all they can, I recommend that you help them to the amount of five hundred dollars ($500) if necessary.  I have not learned that the purchase of the lot is completed.

At Parkersburg we had several interviews with the County Superintendent, Mr. Boardman, the members of the Board of Education, and the teacher of the Public Colored School, Rev. S.E. Colburn and other gentlemen of the place who we learned were laboring for the good of the Colored people; principal among whom are Messrs Logan and Stewart.  There have been two schools in operation a part of the time during the past year.  The Colored people are much divided.  At a public meeting held in a Bureau building where Mr. Colburn has taught, the importance of union and harmony was thoroughly enforced upon the Colored people, as well as in our private conversation with them.
