At Charleston, a large meeting of the Colored people was assembled and addressed by each member of our party.  Afterward the members of the Board of Education and the School Trustees, together with the County Superintendent, called upon us and agreed to purchase a lot of land and proceed to build a school house if the Bureau aid could be afforded:  this was promised upon the spot.  The County Superintendent, Mr. Moore, assured us that he would see that the land was secured and funds raised with our help, to build a house at Chapel Furnace.

We met a very large Colored congregation at Tinkers - on the Sabbath day.  They were gathered from all the country round about.  Colored men from Tinkersville, Oakes Furnace and Cannels Creek assured us that they would use their best endeavors to build houses and put the schools on a permanent footing with our help.

At Buffalo, assisted by Dr. O.G. Chase, the Colored people commenced a suit against the School Board for their share of the school tax.  The Board immediately agreed to pay the tax and the costs of the suit.  We were assured by Dr. Chase that with the help of $200,00 from the Bureau
