My dear Colonel Hanna:-
Your kind letter of November 12th, came duly,and was read with interest. It should have been answered promptly, and would have been, but for a pressure of business, together with considerable absence from Detroit, which prevented inspection of the shipment of drawings and manuscripts. The examination was finished only yesterday, and I now take pleasure in advising you that they are all here in excellent condition.

In giving a memorandum of the Collection to Messrs Obach & Co., I made a mistake of one volume, having entered No. 10 as two separate volumes. They are, as you wrote, bound in one folio, and this fact had escaped my earlier observation.

Now that I have been permitted to look through the entire Collection with care, I am glad to say to you that I am not disappointed in the general excellence of the group. I hope, by degrees, to become eventually familiar with each specimen, and am looking forward, with keen anticipation, to
