MR DEAR MR. FARR,
The fearful storm in New York last week proved a little too much for my strength, and consequently I had to abandon a lot of things which I had meant to do. In going from Montross' Gallery to that of Durand-Ruel, I got thoroughly soaked, so instead of calling upon you, as I had expected to do, I went to my hotel and stayed there until taking the train for Detroit.

I send you this letter in explanation of a broken promise, which I know you will overlook.

With kind regards,
Yours sincerely,
Charles L. Freer
