The Statement of Col. Mason as to words I used on the arrival of the ambulance at the Wharf are in substance correct. The reply of Col. M. was, "Yes and I wish to see you about it and so does Mrs Mason" They went immediately on to the boat and Mrs Mason, her daughter Hatties and the black girl went into the State room and shut the door. I most positively deny that Col. Mason ever said to me officially or unofficially one word about the child other than as above admitted, either on the boat the night Col. M. embarked or at any time previous. I also deny that Mrs M. ever said one word to me about the child, previous to the time I went after her by Order of Genl Kiddoo, which was on the Ninth day of August.

I also deny using the words "I guess that will be all right" to Col. Mason or his wife, or any other language conveying such an Idea. The Statement I make in regard to the reported conversation on the boat I can prove by Capt Jno Scott, who was present.

Respectfully returned to Maj. Gen. Wright, Comdg Dept. of Texas, Calling his attention to endorsement of Col Sinclair. There is a probability discrepancy between Col. Mason's Statements and that of Col. Sinclair which can only be decided by a Court Martial
