Dear Professor Fenollosa:-

I presume you have received many replies to your letters to the gentlemen whom we invited to act on the Central Committee. Nevertheless it seems to me wise to advise you of certain letters which have come to me on the same subject.

Mr. Morse of Evanston, I regret to say, declines to become a committeeman, but expresses deep interest in the matter, as shown in a copy of his letter to me of February 28th, enclosed herein. Whom shall we ask to succeed to the place offered to Mr. Morse? Would it not be wise to tender it to Mr. WIlliam R. French, Director of the Art Institute of Chicago? Mr. French and Mr. Buckingham are both connected with the Museum, and it seems to me the wisest plan to  presue is to interest the officials of the Museums in each of the cities in which it is proposed to exhibit.

Will you kindly think this matter over and as soon as you choose a man to replace Mr. Morse, will you kindly instruct Mr. Hayashi to send the usual invitation?
