My dear Mr. Donaldson:- Having been unexpectedly called to Washington, I am prevented from attending the meeting called for this evening at the Pontchartrain Hotel. The work of yourself and associates to present a permanent memorial of the late Julius Melchers to the Detroit Museum of the Fine Arts, I am sure, will meet the unanimous approval [[strikethrough]] by [[/strikethrough]] all those who were fortunate enough to know Mr. Melchers. Should your meeting decide to purchase the Portrait of Mr. Melchers painted by Welhelmi, or to select some other form of Memorial, I hope to be allowed the privilege of being one of the contributors.
