My dear Mr. Peters:

Your kind letter of the 14th inst., also the model for the proposed catalogue of pottery, together with the two pages of color illustration are here, and have received my most careful consideration.

The model meets with my hearty approval in all details, and the color illustrations seem to me all that could be expected. In fact they resemble the original object more perfectly than I deemed obtainable. Therefore I consider it worth while to produce such a catalogue, feeling sure that the book, so far as the book itself, and illustrations, will reflect honor upon the Japan Society.

The DeVinne letter states that 1,000 copies complete in all respects can be produced for about $7,000. If the Club should decide to have so large an edition published, it would be possible, I think, to dispose of enough copies at a considerable advance over cost to allow a considerable margin for other items of cost, including the text and other expenses in connection with the exhibition.

It has occurred to me that the income from sales of the catalogue should practically cover the cost thereof and all other expenses of the exhibition. However, the latter thought is perhaps
