Honorable Edwin Denby,
Washington D.C.

My dear Mr. Denby-
Replying to your good letter of December 2nd. I have just had a talk with Col. Hecker and Mr. Baldwin, concerning the indebtedness of the Pacific Era, with the following result:
Col. Hecker will give $200.00, or $250.00, depending upon the actual amount of the outstanding indebtedness. That is, if the balance remains unpaid, is $780.00, Col. Hecker will pay $200.00, of it. If, on the other hand, it is $830.00, which Mr. Baldwin thinks the correct figures, he will pay $250.00. Mr. Baldwin will pay $80.00, and I will pay $500.00, thus cleaning the slate. Will you be good enough to let me know, the exact figures still due? And, shall we not send you a draft for the total amount, and let you remit direct to Raynor & Taylor? And also, see that the proper papers winding-up the corporation, are filed at Lansing.
I am looking forward, with pleasure, to an early visit in Washington, and hope to then see you.
With kindest regards, and best wishes, I remain,
Very sincerely yours,
Charles L. Freer
