Dear cousin Lottie:-
Your letter of January 4th, with enclosures as mentioned, was received in Detroit during my absence, and the present, is the first opportunity I have had to reply.
I have read the letter from the McKenzie-Lovett Company, of December 26th, addressed to Mr. Cahill, and believe I quite understand the desire of this firm in the matter mentioned. I believe, that the plan they propose, is one quite frequently adopted by western real estate owners and dealers, but it is not of a nature which I would recommend to you. The property is ample security to your mortgage, and for the present, at least, I recommend you to insist upon payment of your full claim within a reasonable time.
While in Minneapolis, I made inquiry concerning the McKenzie-Lovett Company and found that Mr. McKenzie is a close business friend of Judge Stelle; and that Mr. Lovett is a son-in-law of Judge Steele. I believe they are very honorable people and they are trying to dispose of the Lang real estate for Judge Steele, executor, and, while it would be wise, for some reasons, for you to cooperate with the plan proposed by the McKenzie-Lovett Company, it might end
